Leelanau State Park
The Grand Traverse Lighthouse is located
inside the Leelanau State Park. Located on the Lake Michigan
shoreline, the park offers rustic camping and two mini
cabins. With 8-1/2 miles of hiking and skiing trails,
picnic areas, and a scenic overlook area, there's plenty
to
do here and if you're lucky, you may even find a Petoskey
stone.
For more information about the Leelanau State Park, visit
the
Michigan DNR web site at www.michigandnr.com.
South Fox Island Lighthouse
The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum
is helping to support the preservation and restoration
of the South Fox Island Light Station.
This nearby lighthouse was built in 1867 and later abandoned
in 1959. The Fox Island Lighthouse Association (FILA)
is now currently working to restore the light.
For more information, visit the exhibit in the Grand Traverse
Lighthouse Education Room, or visit FILA at www.southfox.org.
